Dubai striker Mohamed Ibrahim has expressed his squad’s desire to keep the surprises coming all the way to the President’s Cup Final, which will take place on 3rd June at Zayed Sports City. Dubai pulled off one of the Round of 16’s biggest Cup upsets, as the First Division side knocked out giants Al Wahda 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The team standing between Dubai and the Semi-Finals is Al Ahli, who will be welcomed to the Dubai Stadium in Al Awir for Saturday night’s Quarter Final, kicking off at 7:45pm. And though Mohamed Ibrahim concedes that facing Al Ahli will not be an easy task at all, the top Emirati scorer in the First Division insists he and his teammates will do their best to progress to the Semi-Finals, saying: “Now all teams will take us more seriously and put in extra effort against us [after the result against Al Wahda], so this is what will make the game against Al Ahli even more difficult. We recognise how tough it will be to overcome Al Ahli but we will put on a strong performance in the game and our target is to reach the Semi-Final stage.”
After the disappointment of narrowly missing out on promotion, Mohamed Ibrahim says an extended President’s Cup run is the least the Dubai fans deserve, adding: “We hope to continue our journey in the tournament and this would be the most valuable compensation for our fans; it would somewhat make up for the sadness of failing to be promoted to the Arabian Gulf League, especially after coming so close to returning to the top flight.”
